The Group has continued to invest in continuous improvement activity, a policy that has resulted in a number of successes over the last year.
In particular, we have been using Black Belt Six Sigma methodology to challenge key processes to improve quality performance even further. For example, we used Six Sigma techniques to better understand the cause of a process bottleneck; the resulting analysis enabled us to halve the capital cost of the project. In another case, a shop floor Six Sigma project highlighted surface temperature as the root cause of colour drift; consequently, the team built a cooling horse to ensure hides are at 25°C or below when they are colour checked.
